What is Thorchain?

Thorchain is a decentralized liquidity protocol which enables users to exchange cryptocurrency seamlessly on a number of networks without the risk of losing control and custody of their assets.

The protocol allows users to swap one asset for another in a permissionless setting. Liquidity can be sourced without the need to rely on order books. A ratio of assets in a pool is used to maintain market prices.

Highlights May 5: Crypto markets rally, Zilliqa is up 37%

The crypto market is entirely in the green today with most top 100 coins rallying at the time of writing. Cryptos soared following the US central bank rate hike.

Top cryptos

Bitcoin is up almost 5% in the last 24 hours, trading just below $40,000 at the time of writing. Ethereum and Binance Coin are also up around 5%. The biggest top 10 gainer is Cardano, which had added a tenth to its value at the time of publication.  

Cryptos outside the top 10 fared very well too. They are all in the green without exception, the biggest winner being Tron, which cracked the top 20 as predicted. 

It ranks as the 19th biggest coin by market cap, just behind NEAR Protocol, with gains of 20% today and 35% over the past seven days. 

Top movers

Outside the top 20, the tendency was similar, with all coins adding to their value, in most cases up to as much as 15%. Notable standouts include Axie with 18%, Waves with 29%, and THORChain with 19%. 

Curve DAO Token, which began to rally yesterday after Terra launched the “4pool” liquidity pool on Curve, is also up 19% today. 

The biggest winner of the top 100 by far is Zilliqa, which has added the impressive 37% to its value. In April, Zilliqa unveiled Metapolis, the first ‘Metaverse as a Service’ platform built on a technology stack and powered by a leading L1 blockchain. 

In April, Zilliqa also joined BGameAlliance and shared its Roadmap 2022 with its community. All of these activities contributed to the massive surge we are witnessing today.

The biggest winner today is the token of PetWars, a free-to-play turn-based online collectible trading card game. The game is played with a deck of 30 cards, which the player creates using numerous pet-based characters. 

The goal is used to reduce an opponent’s life from 20 years to 0. The token is up 2,882% today.

Wird „Flippening“-Debatte nach Ethereums Fusion wieder auftauchen?

Es war einmal im Krypto-Land, dass das Wort „Flippening“ täglich herumgeschwungen wurde. Der Begriff ist umgangssprachlich für die viel diskutierte Möglichkeit, dass Ethereum die Marktkapitalisierung von Bitcoin „umdreht“ (englisch: flipping) und damit zur größten Kryptowährung der Welt wird. Doch in letzter Zeit wurde nicht mehr so viel über einen neuen King gesprochen, wie die untenstehenden Google-Trenddaten zum Suchbegriff „Flippening“ zeigen.

In Bezug auf die Preisaktion ist 1 ETH jetzt 0,06 BTC wert, nachdem es vor Weihnachten nahe bei 0,09 BTC gelegen hatte. Wie es auf den Kryptomärkten üblich geworden ist, hat sich Bitcoin besser gehalten als seine kleineren Pendants, als der gesamte Markt im Jahr 2022 ins Wanken geraten ist. Das Ausmaß des auf Bitcoin lautenden Rückgangs von ETH ist jedoch tatsächlich überraschend und steiler als wir für den größten Teil des Pandemie-Bullenlaufs gesehen hatten.

Bitcoin-Stärke

Dies spiegelt jedoch eher die Stärke von Bitcoin als die Schwäche von Ethereum wider. In früheren risikoaversen Perioden ist Bitcoin in tief abgestürzt und hat den Rest des Marktes mit nach unten geführt. 2022 sehen wir etwas etwas anderes. Da die Aktienmärkte den schlechtesten Start in ein Jahr seit 1939 erlebten, ist Bitcoin seit Jahresbeginn auf USD-Basis nur um 16 % gefallen.

Dies stellt ein bemerkenswertes Wachstum für die Kryptowährung und einen offensichtlichen Fortschritt in Richtung ihres Wertaufbewahrungsziels dar. Natürlich ist ein Rückgang um 16 % immer noch eine schreckliche Rendite und noch lange kein Wertaufbewahrungsmittel, aber die Verbesserung in historischer Hinsicht ist bemerkenswert.

Merge

Da Ethereum im Jahr 2022 bisher (wie jeder Finanzwert) zu kämpfen hat, ist die Rede vom Flippening daher verstummt. Dazu trägt auch die Merge-Timeline bei, die immer wieder nach hinten verschoben wurde. Der mit Spannung erwartete Wechsel von Ethereum zu Proof-of-Stake soll neben anderen Netzwerkaktualisierungen wie Sharding die Skalierbarkeit des Netzwerks verbessern und die größte Beschwerde über die Blockchain angehen – die lästigen Gasgebühren.

Jede Prognose für Ethereum wird weitgehend vom Ergebnis dieses Updates abhängen, dem größten für das Netzwerk, seit Vitalik Buterin es erstellt hat. Aber da die Fusion jetzt scheinbar unmittelbar bevorsteht – die meisten Marktkommentatoren erwarten sie später in diesem Sommer – seien Sie nicht überrascht, wenn Ethereum wieder an die Spitze der Krypto-Schlagzeilen springt.

Wenn die Zusammenführung reibungslos verläuft, gibt es keine Hindernisse oder Ausreden mehr – es wird endlich Zeit für Ethereum, sein Ding zu machen und zu zeigen, ob es wirklich den Mut hat, wieder in Richtung Bitcoin zu rennen.

Mit der enormen Wertlücke im Moment – zum Zeitpunkt des Schreibens ist Bitcoin 742 Milliarden USD wert, während Ethereum mit 342 Milliarden USD weniger als die Hälfte davon ist – wird das Flippening in der Tat nicht so schnell stattfinden. Aber wundern Sie sich nicht, wenn Sie immer wieder auf den Begriff stoßen, je näher die Fusion rückt.
